If you’re thinking to start your content creation journey, the first question that comes in your mind could be “What to Create?” and when you scroll through Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and see creators with clear focus on their niche like fitness, finance, coding, fashion, motivation. Most of the new creators probably wonder at this point that if everything is already being created then what should we create?

But the truth is You don’t need to figure it all out before you start. There are many content creators who share the same niche with others but still are successful because they enjoy creating that stuff.

All you need is a starting point and everything else will unfold as you move forward in your content creation journey. To get started with clarity, here are 3 simple steps you can follow to find your niche as a content creator.

Step 1: Understand What a Content Creator Niche Really Is

Before we even pick a niche its important to understand what a Niche really means and why do we need it

Think of your niche like the theme of a Netflix series.
If people come to your show for thriller, and suddenly they get a cooking episode, they’ll probably get confused and click away.

It’s simply a focused topic that gives your audience clarity on:

  • What kind of content to expect from you
  • Why they should follow you
  • How you can help or entertain them

Your niche is your hook. Your story and personality is what keeps people around. It builds trust. It helps your audience understand the value you provide and gives them a reason to follow you.

Step 2: Use the Sweet Spot Method

This one is a crucial step, a sweet spot is great method to find out where your passion, skill and the demand of audience overlaps.

All you need to ask yourself these 3 questions:

Question 1: What do I love talking about?

This matters more than people realize because if you post only the trending content even if you’re bored, this is a temporary solution

But if you create what you love to talk about? is when the solution becomes permanent and you’ll never feel out of topic. So ask yourself three questions and observe what comes out many times

  • What topics do I always talk about with friends?
  • What can I speak about for 5-10 minutes without proper rehearsal?
  • What I find valuable on this topic? The value can be entertainment, knowledge, awareness etc.

See if you love your creation, people will definitely love it too!

Question 2: What am I good at learning fast?

You don’t need to be an expert. But people trust creators who are just a few steps ahead.

If you’re learning something new then you can share the journey or even teach people online about it For example. If I was learning Video Editing, I can teach people what I learn, that way I build trust and grow my community

Ask yourself:

  • What do people ask me for help with?
  • What do I enjoy teaching or explaining?
  • What’s a skill I’m improving that others want to learn too?

Question 3: What do people need or want?

This question plays a very important role in your Niche selection because you need to provide people with what they want according your interest, Like If am a video editor, then I need to figure out what people need from me, what value I can provide to my audience.

Now you need to match your interests with people’s demands and for that you can use social media itself to check

  • YouTube comments: Go through Youtube comment section of videos related to your interest and understand what people demand over there
  • Reddit: Reddit users also post various questions, all you need to do is look for them
  • Quora questions: Quora is the best place when it comes to solving someone’s problem or getting to know audience demands
  • Instagram Reels: See what reels are trending according to your interest and how you can create something unique or make it more fun
  • LinkedIn posts: If you want to create content related to business, coding and more you can understand what people are looking for on LinkedIN

You need to utilize existing platform to see what problems people have in your topics. The best niche is your passion + people’s problems.

After matching your interests with people’s demand. Now, look at your answers. Where do all 3 intersect? That’s your content sweet spot

Now you need to create your first 10 reels or Shorts or if you’re a long video creator then create at least 4-5 videos, Talk to your audience and Look what gets engagement, saves, comments, and DMs.

See initially its likely possible that your content will get less engagement but all you need to focus on the statistics to know what people are liking in your content

Focus on Average watch Time of your videos, likes and shares then only decide what works well for you. What content gets shared or commented the most? Double down on that.

You need to stay consistent but also don’t compromise the quality of the video and audio as they play major role for a viral content

Once you earn people’s trust that’s when you become a great content creator

Conclusion

At the end of the day, you don’t need to find your niche only by thinking, you find it by creating. There are many content creators who started with a different Niche but ended up creating content on different Niche because only by creating the content you’ll understand what your audience loves to watch and how you can provide them with their needs and you’ll find your niche as a content creator.

Remember, every big creator started small and they learnt a lot from their journey and had the confidence. You’ve got this.
